The Magic of Online Bingo
If you have ever accompanied your elderly frail aunt to the local bingo halls that she frequented every Wednesday and Saturday evening without fail for as long as you can remember; then the scene above plays loudly and graphically in your memory. It may have even perhaps scared you for life- no way that you will ever play that game you mumble silently to yourself as she grabs your sleeve pulling you down on a seat next to her.
Her kind eyes implore you, conveying that she wants you to share in her fun and enjoyment of the game that she loves so much. Perhaps you don’t know what you are missing. You shake your head and smile, patting her graciously on her folded hands for her sweet offer- but you decline all the same. Bingo is certainly not for you, you think again to yourself. It’s a game for old people after all. I have plenty of fun in my life, certainly don’t need bingo to spice things up!
When you return home and check your emails, you decide to have a look at one of the new online bingo sites that you’ve seen your mother play. How could you not miss her palying, she’s on there every spare moment. You always hear the jingling sound similar to those that you hear in the pokies area at your local pub where you have a drink after work. Perhaps you will just have a little look- just a peek.
You create an account on one of the free site that is in front of you, select a username and then suddenly there you are, ready to play online bingo! Wow that was easy! It certainly still looks like bingo and the basics online appear similar to the offline Bingo game you’ve watched your aunt play twice a week, every week for almost ever! The only difference is that this game is played on the screen instead of on cards on the table. It’s also electronic, and there are no old ladies staring at you crossly and telling you in no uncertain terms to be quiet!
The traditional Bingo cards where the number would be crossed out on are now automated cards that appear randomly on the screen, which sometimes are filled in by the computer, or have to be manually filled in by you. It all looks easy enough.
The Bingo cages where the little sealed balls with number would be in real life is replaced by the random computerized number call that magically pops up on your screen.
The caller who calls out the numbers at your aunt’s bingo hall is replaced by the invisible computer voice and some flashing on the screen.
Suddenly there is a commotion of flashing lights, dazzling sirens and hey, you’ve won! “Bingo” you holler excitedly, jumping up and down on the spot with your arms in the air and hands clapping as you realize your winning numbers have come up! You smile wryly to yourself as it finally dawns on you- that you now understand why your elderly aunt keeps going back to play every week. The game is so exciting and definitely infectious. And although you hate to admit it, you’re well and truly hooked!
